How we compare with StoryWorth, Remento and Meminto

Checked 2 November 2026 against the companies’ own pages, listed at the foot. Prices and plans change; where theirs have, tell us at hello@ayearofstories.com and we will correct this page. We name no winner: every line is what each of us does, and where they do more, it says so.

StoryWorth and Remento are good products that have printed a great many books. We made a few different choices. Here they are side by side, then in words.

The small numbers point to the sources at the foot of the page. Meminto, the other one-time purchase, is in the notes below where we checked it.

What we chose

One price, paid once, nothing renews. $99 for one storyteller, one year of questions and one hardcover; no tiers and no renewal. StoryWorth’s plans were $69, $99 and $199, the last renewing yearly at $991; Remento was $99 and renews after the first year2; Meminto is also a one-time purchase, from $993.

Try it first. Answer one of our questions yourself, by talking or typing, and the chapter comes back to your inbox within the hour, labelled as the machine’s first draft. Neither StoryWorth nor Remento offers a trial; both offer a 30-day guarantee12, 13.

Talk or type, on the day they pick. Our storyteller answers by voice note or by typing and chooses the weekday and the pace. Remento takes audio or video4. StoryWorth sends on Mondays and the weekday cannot be changed; typed answers are on every plan, phone recording on the higher ones5.

A person reads every chapter. Software turns the recording into text and makes the first draft under one rule: fix spelling and flow, add nothing. Then a person reads the chapter against a word-for-word transcript before it goes in the book. StoryWorth says it does not review or edit books before printing6. Remento’s Speech-to-Story offers a cleaned transcript or a restructured narrative that the family can edit7.

Follow-up questions are included. Every one of our 52 questions carries two or three, and a short answer gets one follow-up email two days later. StoryWorth’s automatic follow-ups are part of Magic Interviews, on its Unlimited plan8. Remento generates one follow-up from each recording9.

We make the book. At the end of the year we lay out, check and print it; the family reads a preview and says it looks right. StoryWorth’s family reviews a PDF proof and orders the book within three months of the year ending10. Meminto offers a paid layout check ($49) and approval before printing3.

Nothing is sent until the storyteller says yes, and we never phone or text them. The gift card prints at home the minute you order, or we email the invitation on the morning you choose; StoryWorth and Remento offer a scheduled email and a printable card as well.

The hard cases are in writing. A full refund within 60 days of buying or 30 days after the first question, whichever is later; a year from purchase while a gift is unaccepted; if a storyteller stops, the book still prints with everything told; if a storyteller dies, the questions stop that day and the book prints at no cost, or you are refunded in full if they had not yet said yes. StoryWorth offers a 30-day money-back guarantee as long as no book has been printed; Remento a 30-day guarantee.

Where they do more

Colour and size. Our book is 6 × 9 inches with photographs in black and white. Remento prints an 8 × 10 inch book in full colour, up to 200 pages included11. StoryWorth Color prints up to 300 colour pages for $99; Basic prints up to 480 black-and-white pages for $691.

Years in the market. StoryWorth has printed more than a million books since 2013 and shows tens of thousands of reviews; Remento has recorded more than a million stories and was on Shark Tank. We started in 2026, and we would rather say so: until there are families to speak for us, our promises are the proof.

Phone calls and video. StoryWorth’s higher plans include recording by phone, including from a landline, and Remento sells a phone-call option and records video as well as audio. We send email, and our storyteller records in the browser or types; we never call, and we record audio.

The same, or close

Weekly questions by email; a library the family can swap questions from or add their own; photographs added through the year; each chapter shared with the family as it is finished; recordings kept, playable and downloadable; a code in the book that plays the recording (ours is printed when the storyteller chooses it; StoryWorth, Remento and Meminto print one too).
