Full details

Their story. In their words. In a book.

Every week for a year, your storyteller gets one question by email. What was your first job? How did you meet? What did your kitchen smell like growing up? They answer by talking into their phone or by typing. No app to install, no phone calls unless they ask for them.

We edit the answers into chapters they can read and correct along the way. After the 52nd question we print everything as a 6 × 9 inch hardcover and ship it to you, or to them.

How it works

  1. You order today. A printable gift card for the day you give it, and an invitation link to forward to your storyteller.
  2. They say yes. Your storyteller opens the invitation and picks a day of the week. We never contact them before they do. Invitations open December 1, 2026, and the first question arrives within a week of them accepting.
  3. One question a week. By email, answered by voice note or typing. Chapters build up in a private page only they and you can see.
  4. The book arrives. Hardcover, up to 200 pages, cream paper, with their photographs in black and white. One copy included. Extra copies are $59.

Questions

Before you ask them, ask us.

Who is this for?

Anyone whose stories you want on paper: a parent, a grandparent, a partner, an old friend. Most people give it to a mother, father or grandparent. The storyteller needs an email address and a phone or a computer.

What if they are not good with technology?

If they can open an email and tap one button, they can do this. There is no app to install and no account to create. They talk into their phone or type. If they get stuck, a person at A Year of Stories helps them by email, or by phone if they prefer.

When does it start?

Invitations open December 1, 2026. Your storyteller gets the first question within a week of accepting the invitation, on the day of the week they choose. The invitation link does not expire.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay $99 once. There are no monthly charges. Extra printed copies are $59 each.

What if they stop answering?

Life happens. We pause and send a gentle reminder on their day. If they decide to stop, we refund the unused months, and whatever they have written stays yours to download.

Can I add my own questions?

Yes. There is a library of 52 questions. You can swap any week for a question of your own, or write the year together with your storyteller.

What does the book look like?

A 6 × 9 inch hardcover, up to 200 pages on cream paper, their photographs in black and white, and their name on the cover. It is printed and bound in the US and ships to you or to them.

What is your refund policy?

Full refund any time before the first question is sent, no questions asked. After that, unused months are refunded. Because each book is printed to order from your storyteller’s own words it cannot be returned for change of mind, but if it arrives damaged or with an error we made, we reprint it free. Email hello@ayearofstories.com and a person replies.

Fifty-two questions. One book. Their words.
